New Fin, Best Winter Swell 09!

So we just had the best swell of 2009! Surfline has an article here. I had the chance to try out my new Hydrofoil fin. I caught 2 really good waves. The last was a solid 6' left that seemed to go forever!

The fin held the line OK yet it seemed to slow me down a bit. On my last wave as an exit maneuver I went for a roundhouse cutback. The fin dragged, I stalled and then I got nailed by the wave. Still it was an awesome session! Can't wait for the next chance to test it out.

Aloha!

I just completed this piece. Acrylic on primed board 8"x16". It's titled "The great escape".

Midnight Snacks Show

My friend BJ Hubble organized a traveling show. The show included many artists, about 25 or so. Each piece measured around 13"x13". The show opened in Richmond, Va on Feb 6 at Ghost Print Gallery. From there it goes to DC and then to Brooklyn.

My piece for the show is entitled "I have always loved you". Acrylic on canvas 18"x14".

New FCS 3D Hydrofoil Center Fin

I just got this FCS hydrofoil fin. It was designed and developed over 20 years by Gold Coast surfer, shaper and designer John Harris. They say it's supposed to help with speed in flat areas and provide more traction in turns on mushy waves. I wonder how it will work with the side H3 fins as they have such a wide cant.

We shall see. Next time we get a good swell I will definitely test it and report back in.

New Board

We went to Hawaii for 3 weeks this Dec/Jan. I picked up this fresh new board from the Rip Curl store in Waikiki. The guy that sold it to me, Ben was from Longbeach, NY!

The board is from JS Industries from the Gold Coast of Australia. Bruce Irons, Parko, Occy are all team riders.

It's a modern take on the fish just a bit thinner with a little more nose rocker. The dimensions are: 5'10", 20" wide with a nice swallow tail. For the fin set up I got the FCS H2 Hydrodynamic fins sized medium. They are canted way out and hold the line really really well. She flies!
